New COPA Paper: Reliable Routing Strategies on Urban Transportation Networks

The latest COPA paper, titled Reliable Routing Strategies on Urban Transportation Networks and published in Transportation Science, proposes a new algorithm to find the optimal routing policy within urban transportation networks to maximize the probability of arriving at the destination on time. The algorithm can help make better routing choices for daily commutes, and it can be used as an analytical tool for logistics companies focusing on timely deliveries or supporting traffic management decisions by predicting road network conditions. According to the authors, what makes this research stand out from similar work is:

“We invested significant effort in making a practical contribution, which can help alleviate some transportation-related issues, but we also provide all the theoretical background supporting the design and correctness of the algorithm. We aimed to develop an applicable algorithm – one that can be used by transportation engineers, for example – with a solid and comprehensive theoretical analysis. In addition, we tried our best to ensure that readers understand every aspect of our research by employing several illustrative examples and figures.”
