Impact Assessment of an Active Transport Intervention via Systems Analytics

Discover the groundbreaking research published in the latest COPA paper titled "Impact Assessment of an Active Transport Intervention via Systems Analytics on Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment." This paper introduces a novel systems analytics multi-methodology designed to evaluate the potential impact of temporary bike paths in Bogotá on cyclists’ safety and physical activity. By considering the complexity of urban systems, this approach offers valuable insights for decision-makers in transport interventions.

According to the authors:
"We developed a systems analytics multi-methodology approach that considers the intricate nature of transport systems, stakeholders' perspectives, and data to examine how transport interventions, specifically the creation of temporary bike paths in Bogotá during the COVID-19 pandemic, can influence community health. Our findings highlight the main barriers and drivers for bicycle usage, as well as the potential benefits of implementing temporary bike paths, including a reduction in stress related to bike travel and road collisions, potentially preventing premature deaths, and promoting the shift towards bicycle usage in Bogotá. Furthermore, our systems analytics methodology has broader applications beyond transport interventions, offering insights into various urban systems that require consideration of user interactions, decision-making processes, and infrastructure. Through our case study on temporary bike paths in Bogotá, we aim to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of our methodology."
